About us

Heatherbank Pre & Primary School is a private non-profit initiative aimed at providing a quality education for learners primarily from the Walmer(Gqebera) Township.

The school was started in 2013 by Chris & Ellen Lovemore under the auspices of the Lovemore Charitable & Educational Foundation Trust which is a registered NPO and PBO entity.

The school was originally built in the 1970’s on the farm Heatherbank and run by the Department of Education. By 2012, the Department resolved to close down farm schools, so it was decided to rejuvenate the school under private management.

Currently, the school has 220 pupils, having grown from 31 preschoolers in 2013. There are 10 classes ranging from 4 yr olds in Grade 00 to 13 yr olds in Grade 7.

With a commited team of educators, support staff and volunteers, our learners receive a well-rounded and supportive educational experience.

The critical success factors of the school are:

  • Competent and active management and leadership.

  • External Monitoring & Evaluation of the performance of the staff and pupils.

  • The discipline and work-ethic of the teachers and pupils.

  • Extra-mural and cultural activities.

  • The focus on the English language but not at the expense of the mother-tongue.

  • The provision of safe and reliable transport to and from home each day.

  • The provision of secure premises to protect pupils, staff and equipment.
